Image Generators

Make Tom Angry!

I had fun with the various image generators out there. You can get really creative. It is also fun to see what others have done with these generators. The example I used is called, "Make Tom Angry." You can easily and quickly put anything you want in the white blurb. Try it out, the link is below.

Finding Feeds

I found the Bloglines Search Tool to be very easy to use. It’s a great place to find feeds, posts, citations and the web. As a computer technician dealing with Microsoft products on a daily basis, I added: Microsoft Download Center and Microsoft Watch.

Feedster is great. You can search billions of posts. You can choose to search blogs, news, and podcasts. I like that the home page gives you the most popular searches , and the feed of the day. They also have Content Channels powered by Feedpapers that offer channels on things like technology sports, and politics. I added a feed from CrashLaughing.com. It has funny quotes and jokes to give some comic relief to your day.

Syndic8.com has lots of great RSS feeds that users have submitted. I subscribed to a Daily News Feed that talks about a wide variety of news topics. I did find synic8.com the most confusing of the three I discussed here. I guess it’s because there homepage has a lot of clutter on it.

I feel somewhat overwhelmed with information overload after researching these various Feed site, but one thing is certain………. If you need to find something, it’s out there.

RSS and Newsreader

I had a lot of fun with this exercise. RSS and Newsreaders can save someone so much wasted time of searching and scolling. You also know the information you are getting is up to date. That can be very important with things like buying stocks and other investments, where timing is crucial. Whether it's getting local news, weather, investing, or just your favorite comic strip, this technology has got you covered.

Here is a list of my current feeds. Click on them to view the feed.

I also shared my blogline feeds link - Look for it in the upper right corner of my blog.

Meet Kansei the robot

Japan has created a robot named Kansei. It has 36 different facial expressions and uses them based on word association. It currently has a database of 500,00 keywords. For example if you say the word war, Kansei would use its 19 movable parts underneath its silicone face to express fear or disgust.

In a few years Kansei will have speech capabilities, and the ability to express feelings. This could be used in places like nursing homes.

Japan is also working on humanoid robots that work as maids and just recently a researcher created a robot that moves and looks just like himself.

Mappr

I found Mappr very cool to use with Flickr. It is an interactive environment for looking at photos that correspond to were they were taken. Say you lived in four different states in your life. You can put your photos on a map to correspond to the state they were taken. I really like it because it is a great way to organize all my military photos based on where I was stationed at the time of the photo. Mappr gives a broader perspective and interest to your photos.

Here is the link to Mappr: Check it out! http://www.mappr.com/
