Japan has created a robot named Kansei. It has 36 different facial expressions and uses them based on word association. It currently has a database of 500,00 keywords. For example if you say the word war, Kansei would use its 19 movable parts underneath its silicone face to express fear or disgust.
In a few years Kansei will have speech capabilities, and the ability to express feelings. This could be used in places like nursing homes.
Japan is also working on humanoid robots that work as maids and just recently a researcher created a robot that moves and looks just like himself.
